HEARST NEWSPAPERS NAMES PAUL FARRELL GROUP PUBLISHER OF HEARST CONNECTICUT NEWSPAPERS
Thursday 30. August 2012 - Hearst Newspapers announced today that Paul Farrell has been named group publisher of Hearst Connecticut Newspapers. The announcement was made by Frank A. Bennack, Jr., CEO of Hearst Corporation, and Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam.
As Connecticut Group Publisher, Farrell will have responsibility for the operating performance across Hearst’s network of media companies in the state, which includes four dailies (Connecticut Post in Bridgeport, The News-Times in Danbury, The Advocate in Stamford and Greenwich Time) and seven weekly newspapers in Fairfield County. John DeAugustine had been acting as group publisher previously and will remain publisher of the Connecticut Post, in addition to his network-wide responsibility as executive vice president for circulation and operations.
“Paul is uniquely qualified to lead our diversified Connecticut media group given his extensive advertising sales and audience development experience,” Aldam said. “We are excited to welcome him to Hearst Newspapers and are certain Paul will be a great leader for our team across Connecticut.”
Farrell joins Hearst from Lee Enterprises where he was senior vice president of sales and marketing since 2007, leading the company’s revenue generating efforts for all enterprises and products, including developing strategies aimed at audience development of print, online and magazine products. Prior to Lee, he was SVP of advertising for The Providence Journal from 2004 to 2007, and advertising director of the Boston Globe from 1999 to 2004. Earlier in his career, Farrell was SVP at Community Newspaper Company, a division of Fidelity Investments; SVP of sales and marketing for the St. Paul Pioneer Press; a director at Atex, a division of Eastman Kodak, where he was responsible for product development and marketing of publishing software and hardware products; and director of sales and marketing at the Miami Herald Publishing Company.
Farrell has an MBA from Northeastern University and a bachelor’s from Providence College.
