ACCUCHECK nominated for prestigious international award

Thursday 30. August 2012 - BOBST's in-line zero-fault quality control system for folding carton producers, ACCUCHECK, has been nominated for a 2012 Deutscher Verpackungspreis award.

The ACCUCHECK unit identifies problems originating anywhere in the carton production process, including print defects, surface faults and die-cutting errors, checking every single carton in a production run, in-line during the folding and gluing process. Because the process is the last before the cartons are packed and shipped to filling lines ACCUCHECK effectively delivers a final “100%” check on production which is ideal for today’s packaging manufacturers who increasingly have ‘zero-fault’ requirements in their contracts with brand owners and packer/fillers.
Deutscher Verpackungspreis is an international competition which publicly honours the most innovative packaging and packaging solutions of the year.
The awards encompass the entire supply chain from new materials, designs, and machines to strategies, processes and application scenarios. After two days of active testing and discussion, the Deutscher Verpackungspreis jury has nominated 58 outstanding packaging solutions for the award, with the BOBST ACCUCHECK. nominated in the Packaging Machines category.
Jacques Reymond, Product Marketing Director Folder-Gluers at BOBST said, “The Deutscher Verpackungspreis is highly regarded in the industry and we are delighted that ACCUCHECK has been chosen as a nominee. Just in itself this means that the system has been recognised as truly innovative by the panel of independent judges. ACCUCHECK is already helping many packaging manufacturers meet the demands of ‘zero fault’ contracts and by the end of the year we will have installed many such systems, mainly across Europe where the demand for ‘zero-fault’ packaging is highest.”
ACCUCHECK has been developed on the back of BOBST’s 20 years plus of experience in print inspection systems, most notably gained from its Registron quality inspection systems on Champlain gravure and flexo printing presses. Installed as a module within a BOBST MASTERFOLD or EXPERTFOLD folder-gluer line, the unit uses a high definition camera to scan each carton as it enters the line, comparing the real-time image acquired against a reference image. ACCUCHECK has been designed for the extremely high rate of data flow received from the camera during production, enabling it to interface perfectly with the host folder-gluer and so ensure that any non-conforming carton is registered by the management system and ejected.
Launched in November 2011, ACCUCHECK is the first built-in ‘zero-fault’ quality control system available for folder-gluers and allows manufacturers to meet today’s demand for faultless packaging while delivering the high-speed gluing production they need. The unit is user friendly and highly versatile, enabling manufacturers to drive quality, performance and productivity in their packaging operations whatever their markets.
The winners of the Deutscher Verpackungspreis awards will be announced at a ceremony in Nürnberg on the 24th of September, prior to the start of FachPack 2012, and three of the winning innovations will be shown on the dvi Deutsches Verpackungsinstitute stand at that exhibition.
