Paywalls: Promising Early Results at World Newspaper Congress
Thursday 23. August 2012 - In the current "pay wall" debate over charging for on-line newspaper content, there is now hard evidence for the pro-pay wall argument. The promising early results will be presented at the upcoming World Newspaper Congress and World Editors Forum, to be held from 2 to 5 September in Kiev, Ukraine.
The 2012 Global Report on Innovations in Newspapers, an annual highlight of the Congress and Forum presented by Juan Señor of the Innovation International Media Consulting Group, will provide an overview of emerging innovations that publishers need to know – paywalls among them.
The presentation, to a combined Congress and Editors Forum audience of publishers, CEOs, chief editors, managing directors and other senior newspaper executives from around the world, will include actual cases of newspapers that are succeeding with the wide variety of paywall models, from “freemium” to metered content and more.
The Innovations in Newspapers report, prepared by Innovations for the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), is one of dozens of Congress and Forum presentations on cutting edge business and editorial strategies.
The Innovations presentation will be accompanied by the launch of the Innovations in Newspapers World Report, which will be provided at no charge to conference participants.
In addition to pay walls, the topics include case studies and best practices in the areas of: E-Books, ad sales in Latin America, multimedia newsrooms, impact of digital technologies on reporting; HTML5 Apps; design concepts for websites; customized widgets that allow reporters to produce data-filled graphics; social media; investigative journalism; and resources which provides recommendations of books, films and blogs.
