Harland Simon to Upgrade the Goss HT70 press controls at Turkuvaz Medya Group

Friday 06. May 2011 - The Turkish newspaper publisher Turkuvaz Medya Group whose titles include the daily "Sabah" are now benefiting from an upgrade to their Harland Simon press control systems.

As well as reconfiguring the Goss HT 70 press line at the Samandira site, the obsolete control electronics have been replaced with the latest PressNet control system and components. Some of the original Intella 100 and Intella 300 processors as well as parts of the quality desks that were installed in the 1990’s are no longer available. This put the customer in a vulnerable position should a component fail, but Harland Simon have provided a practical upgrade path and have now replaced these parts with supported components and the software. As well as dealing with the obsolescence factor Sabah can now benefit from a number of system improvements.
Benefits include improvements to the press communication system and the original Multidrop system will be replaced. The new PressNet system also gives the customer the advantage of improved access to press data from the Press Control desks as well increased diagnostic capabilities and access to Harland Simon’s Remote Support Service. The new system will also include modifications to the Prima management system to expand presetting capabilities with the benefits of reduced start-up waste.
Turkuvaz Medya Group Technical Manager, Sedat Yazar said “We have known for some time that we were at risk due to unsupported parts, so we saw this as an essential step before any reconfiguration of the printing units. This upgrade will extend the life of the HT70 press and improve the press operation for our printers and technicians. We feel ourselves more secure according to the past because of having a safer and faster communication system and also a more user friendly control system. We have been very pleased with the work that Harland Simon has done. The project was completed on time, and with no disturbance to our daily production schedules.”
David Wallen, Director of Customer Services for Harland Simon added, “Our well proven method in providing this type of upgrade means that we can complete the work with the minimum disruption to production whilst providing a very cost-effective solution that many sites can benefit from. We are delighted to be able to provide Sabah with this upgrade.”
The upgrade PressNet conversion and press reconfiguration was complete in April this year.
