Eastern European Printers Share Knowledge Through FESPA-Supported Event Programme
Friday 29. April 2011 - Members of FESPAs national associations in Hungary, Russia and Poland have benefitted from a programme of free Spring events, two of which were co-funded through FESPAs global reinvestment programme.
FESPA President Gyorgy Kovacs hosted a seminar for more than 100 delegates at the University of Obuda in his native Hungary, the objective of which was to promote screen printing and showcase screen printed special effects, both to professional printers and to students of print at the university. Attendees heard expert presentations from hero screen printers from across eastern Europe. These included Artem Nadirashvili, award-winning owner of Midiprint, fellow Russian Svetlana Mikhailova of Marcodie laser engraving, Michal Kridel of Poland, and Ukrainian Sergei Glushko who talked through the production challenges inherent in his screen printed Turin Shroud, now displayed in The Holy Portaitissa Cathedral in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. These were supplemented by presentations on the environment, computer-to-screen, and combating counterfeiting in print, and with a keynote speech from Gyorgy about FESPAs success and mission for its community.
In Russia, 90 members of the Russian Screen Printers Association participated in a FESPA-supported event in Moscow. The star attraction was FESPA founding father Michel Caza, whose focus was on ICC profiles and problem-solving for screen printers, while also commenting on the growth that screen printing is enjoying in textile and industrial applications. Delegates were thrilled to share Michels award-winning collection of screen-printed POS, fine- and pop-art.
FESPA also contributed content to a two-day workshop in Krakow, Poland, organised and hosted by Sico Poland with the involvement of the Polish national association PSSiDC. The workshop – the seventh of its kind – attracted 100 delegates on each day to hear the latest technical insights in screen and digital. Participants enjoyed a programme of vendor presentations from Sico, MacDermid Autotype, Politape, RKS, Bochonow, Mimaki, Klieverik, Triangle and Sensient, as well as FESPAs presentations on sustainability and innovation, delivered by Head of Membership Services Chris Smith.
