PolyOne Sponsors Leading-Edge Plastics Modification Conference

Thursday 28. April 2011 - PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, today announced its sponsorship of "Plastics Modification: Additives, Compounding & Coatings," a conference organized by InnoPlast Solutions to be held May 16-18 in Chicago.

“PolyOne’s support and participation in this conference demonstrates our commitment to delivering innovative and responsible solutions that help our customers win new business, differentiate their offerings, and meet sustainability goals,” said Dr. Cecil C. Chappelow, vice president, innovation, sustainability, and chief innovation officer. “This conference features pioneering, commercially available technologies from PolyOne and other industry leaders that are formulated to give OEMs and processors a competitive advantage.”
During the conference, Roger Avakian, PolyOne’s vice president of scientific development and conference chairman, will present “A 21st Century Approach to Biomaterial Design” in a joint session with Accelrys, a leading software development firm.
Accelrys will outline a rational, molecular modeling approach for using today’s powerful computer technology to design new polymers, and Avakian will explain how PolyOne uses this cost-effective method to solve problems and rapidly develop new solutions for its customers. “Using computational chemistry, we can predict what properties will result from given material combinations, allowing us to quickly provide a solution to a specific requirement, such as heat distortion temperature,” Avakian explained.
In addition, Segetis will present “Breakthrough Performance in Flexible BioPolymers – PolyOne PLA Compounds with Segetis BioPlasticizer.” Segetis has developed a new class of versatile, bio-based plasticizers, and will present data on formulations created in cooperation with PolyOne. The Segetis plasticizers are available commercially, and PolyOne plans to use the new additive to develop customer-specific formulated polymers or masterbatches, depending on the customer need.
Other conference highlights will include keynote presentations by graphene manufacturer XG Sciences, focused on breakthrough nano-carbon materials, and by Kraft Foods regarding their need for innovative functional packaging.
