Exports excel at Intec
Friday 22. April 2011 - EXPORTS excel at Intec From UK-only sales to predominantly exports in just 18 months. That is how the fortunes of Intec Printing Solutions in Hamworthy, near Poole, Dorset have transformed.
The manufacturer of heavy stock colour laser printers, which was founded in January 2009, now generates more than £100,000 gross profit per month and turnover has risen year-on-year by 35 per cent. This figure is expected to be exceeded during 2011, according to Managing Director Ian Melville, who says that the revenue forecast for the year is £4m compared to the £2.7m realised in 2010. “We could see that our target market – any organisation wanting to produce their own corporate literature in-house from hotels and hospitals through to university marketing departments – were starting to cut back on investment as a way of tackling the economic downturn,” explained Mr Melville. “But there was a much more positive story abroad and from emerging markets in Indonesia and India,” he said, adding that he is in talks with a distributor for China. From the head office in Hamworthy, Intec has “established a dealer network in more than 70 countries including Uruguay, Venezuela and the Caribbean”. “For instance, we work with RIC in Spain, Altech in the Middle East and Africa and Printex in India,” Mr Melville said. “This year we have sold over 20 systems to Australia, eight to Indonesia and some even to Ghana. The recent Graphispag exhibition in Barcelona, where we launched the envelope printing system to the Spanish market, saw us take almost £500,000 of orders. “In 2011 Intec has already exhibited at international trade shows in Dubai and India and we have forthcoming shows in the USA, Germany, Australia and Sweden,” he added. This strong interest in the Intec brand, Mr Melville believes, is down to the fact that it “allows businesses to bring all their printing in-house at a cost effective price (from between £5,000 and £15,000)”. The ever-expanding line-up – currently eight printer models – enables users to print on media stock ranging from thick card (up to 512gsm) to magnetic media. Mr Melville, who will officially open his US office in Tampa, Florida in May, says that global expansion is key to the companys long-term success and he is currently considering opening more offices around the world. Intec printers are manufactured in an environmentally-friendly factory in Cumbernauld, Scotland.
