Eastman 168 Non-Phthalate Plasticizer Receives Additional U.S. FDA Food Contact Clearance

Friday 15. April 2011 - Eastman Chemical Company announces U.S. FDA expanded food contact clearance for its Eastman 168 non-phthalate plasticizer. Food Contact Notification (FCN) 1056 permits the use of Eastman 168 to be used in contact with all food types at levels up to 55 percent by weight of the finished plasticized poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) formulations for repeated use articles.

“The new FCN 1056 for Eastman 168 non-phthalate plasticizer further solidifies the safe use of this novel plasticizer,” says Brian Yobst, plasticizers business unit manager, Eastman. “Having expanded clearance by the FDA will allow more brand owners to realize the benefits and efficiencies of Eastman 168.”
Eastman 168 non-phthalate plasticizer has more than 30 years of safe use in sensitive applications such as food contact, toys and childcare articles, and medical devices. It also has a long and growing track record of regulatory clearances and comes backed by a clean and comprehensive toxicological profile. Customers and brand owners are finding it particularly favorable to use Eastman 168 where regulatory pressures or the choice to use alternatives to ortho-phthalates is driving change. Eastman 168 offers those customers regulatory compliance and differentiation without sacrificing performance or the need for major changes to manufacturing processes.
