Scholle Packaging Recognized With Prestigious Sustainability Award
Wednesday 13. April 2011 - Scholle bag-in-box packaging for automotive fluids and oil wins 3M Sustainability Award
Scholle Packaging, the Pioneer of Bag-In-Box, has won the prestigious 3M Sustainability Award from 3M along with the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP)’s Ameristar Award for the automotive category.
Each year the 3M Sustainability Award is given to the package which scores highest in reducing impacts on the environment. This includes efficient energy usage, recycling efforts, effective use of packaging materials and recovery.
“Scholle Packaging is honored to win both the 3M Sustainability Award and an Ameristar Award,” remarked Tom Bickford, Executive Vice President-Packaging. “Scholle Packaging is committed to producing packaging materials with lower environmental impacts to better serve our customers.”
Scholle Packaging’s bag-in-box system for automotive chemicals and fluids allows manufacturer’s to satisfy their customers’ needs with an efficient, environmentally-conscious package.
Each six gallon bag-in-box packaging system removes 24 one-liter bottles from the waste stream and features superior product evacuation, saving suppliers money and damage to the environment upon disposal into landfills.
Overall, plastic resin usage is reduced by nearly 90% compared to rigid one-liter bottles, reducing impact to the environment through the manufacture of the packaging system. During shipping, greenhouse gas emissions are lower than the incumbent packaging due to more-efficient cube utilization on trucks, in warehouses and at the end- user. The outer carton of the packaging system is also fully-recyclable.
Scholle Packaging members will be in attendance at the Ameristar Awards Dinner and Ceremony hosted by IOPP, May 10th in Rosemont, IL.
