Borealis donates AED 3.5 million to the Abu Dhabi community
Wednesday 13. April 2011 - Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions, has decided to donate AED 1.5 million to Emirates National School and AED 2 million to Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs. Established in 2008, the Borealis Social Fund was created to support social projects in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
“Global outreach is not simply about business growth, it also extends to the investments in people and the societies where we operate,” says His Excellency, Khadem Al Qubaisi, Chairman of Borealis Supervisory Board and Managing Director of IPIC (Abu Dhabi based International Petroleum Investment Company). “IPIC encourages its global family of companies to follow this model and we are pleased that Borealis has decided to support the Emirates National School and the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs in Abu Dhabi.”
“Our corporate social responsibility is not limited to local sponsorships in Europe and our Water for the World programme,” says Borealis Chief Executive Mark Garrett. “We are significantly expanding our petrochemical operations at Borouge, our joint venture with ADNOC, and we are committed to contribute to the welfare and enhancement of the communities in the UAE.”
“We are honoured that Borealis has selected to support our schools. The funds provided to us will be used to enhance our education facilities particularly in the areas of science and engineering”, says Emirates National School Director General Kenneth Vedra.
H.E. Mohammed M. Al Hameli, Deputy Chairman, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care, underlined Borealis humanitarian initiative in supporting the organizations noble mission to help the special needs category and enhance the public awareness about the importance of social solidarity among the members of the community. “Companies that are committed to improving the community welfare are highly appreciated and we are pleased that Borealis, an increasingly important player in the Abu Dhabi economy, is amongst them,” says Al Hameli.
The Borealis Social Fund donation of AED 3.5 million continues Borealis engagement to support the advancement of the UAE. In November 2010, a total of AED 1.5 million from the Social Fund was donated to UAE charities including the Emirates Foundation and the Red Crescent Society.
