Canon wins two coveted red dot design awards in 2011 competition

Friday 08. April 2011 - Canon has won a duo of awards in the red dot: product design 2011 competition - the world’s largest and most distinguished design contest. The company’s PIXMA MG8150 printer and the X Mark I calculator series are both among the elite group of products recognised in this year’s competition, with each awarded the famous ‘red dot’ seal of approval for design quality.

The PIXMA MG8150 is a premium Wi-Fi All-in-One with a sleek, piano black exterior design and a large central control panel and TFT display. Users can print, copy and scan in seconds with PIXMA’s unique Intelligent Touch System – an easy-to-use touch panel with light guide. Using Canon’s Full-Photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) print technology, it can deliver up to 9,600 dpi print resolution, with minimum 1pl ink droplets for amazingly detailed colour and monochrome photos. A comprehensive software suite includes Canon’s Full HD Movie print software, allowing users to print still photos from movie footage.
The X Mark I, X Mark I Print and X Mark I Mouse calculators make up the X Mark I calculator series, each featuring a premium design with sleek, angular and streamlined bodies that are comfortable to hold in the hand. The X Mark I features a display unit made using residual material from Canon prism lenses, and was Canon’s first fully solar-powered business calculator. The X Mark I Print is a business printing calculator that combines stylish simplicity with reduced environmental impact, having a bottom case assembled from recycled Canon materials. The X Mark I Mouse is a sleek, three-in-one personal calculator that also acts as a wireless laser mouse and numeric keypad for personal computers.
“As always, our jury cast a very careful eye over the products submitted. Design quality has asserted itself clearly in the judging process, with genuine and new creative solutions also being rewarded. Both of these criteria are not just yardsticks for good design, but also for the potential for success on the market. This potential is increased several times over by the targeted use of our renowned design award”, says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, the initiator of the red dot design award.
This year, designers and companies from 60 countries entered 4,433 products in the red dot award: product design.
