Nippon Paper Group Restarts Operations at Iwanuma Mill

Wednesday 06. April 2011 - We express our deepest sympathies to victims of the recent Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake.

Our thoughts are with the victims of this disaster, and we hope for the rapid reconstruction of the devastated areas.
We are pleased to announce that Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Yoshio Haga), our major subsidiary, resumes operation at Iwanuma Mill (Iwanuma, Miyagi) following restarting of Nakoso Mill (Iwaki, Fukushima) on April 5. Details are as follows:
1. Restoration of Iwanuma Mill
The boilers in the mill were damaged by the earthquake of March 11 and stopped operating. However, the paper machines, the main equipment in the mill, have been caused comparatively slight damage. The mill is starting to operate one of boilers this week, two paper machines for newsprint will be restarted one by one after April 11.
2. Effect on performance
We are assessing the effect of the earthquake on the performance of the Company. Any material effects will be announced as soon as they are determined.
