Low(er) Print Runs Call for Shorter Set-Up Times
Wednesday 06. April 2011 - Weber Offset GmbH in Munich Invests in Primera C110 Stitching Machine
“Changeovers must be faster from one job to the next,” says Magnus Weber, Sales Manager at Weber Offset GmbH in Munich (Germany). In order to lower finishing set-up times, the full-service graphic arts company is replacing its 335 stitching machine, which has performed impeccably over the last 25 years, with a Primera C110 from Muller Martini.
Weber Offset in Munich has been relying on the 335 stitching machine from Muller Martini for a quarter of a century now, and the machine has proved to be very reliable in performing its daily duties. “Although it is somewhat outdated,” says Sales Manager Magnus Weber, “we have always been satisfied with the reliability and quality of the stitched products.”
But there was one factor that was crucial in the decision of this family company – founded in 1968 and with a staff of 25 – to opt for this new investment, and that was the increasing importance of shorter set-up times. This full-service graphic arts company, which specializes in high-quality promotional leaflets and completes every phase of processing, from prepress and printing through to finishing, is seeing figures of around 500 copies for the lower runs. “Changeovers must be faster from one job to the next,” says Magnus Weber emphatically.
“The Optimum Solution for our Requirements”
Due in part to a long and successful partnership with Muller Martini, the company opted for the Primera C110, the first stitching machine of its kind in Bavaria. “We wanted another reliable machine from a top company,” says Magnus Weber. In addition, the simplicity of the machines operation was also a decisive factor. The previous stitching machine was always operated by the same machine operator, who had a great deal of expertise in this area, but is now going into retirement. As the new-generation Muller Martini stitching machines are significantly easier to operate, thanks to a convenient touch screen and automatic size adjustments, Magnus Weber believes that “we will be able to use several different machine operators in the future.”
The new Primera C110 at Weber Offset -“the optimum solution for our requirements” (Magnus Weber) – has four feeders, cover folder feeders and Perfetto stackers with an Amrys automatic make ready system. The machine is configured in such a way that a merchandise tipper can also be integrated at a later stage. The new line will be commissioned this coming May.
