UPM aims at building with wood and seeks growth by differentiating its sawn timber and further processing businesses

Friday 01. April 2011 - UPM Timber divides its business into independent sawn timber and further processing businesses to enhance its service ability for timber and building industry customers. The structural change is carried out to give more precise service for different end use customer groups and to improve new product development capabilities for sustainable building.

“Timber’s strategy aims for sustainable growth. By renewing our operating models and ways with courage we are able to improve our profitability and sales of our sawn and further processed products”, says Tuomo Visanko, SVP of UPM’s Forest & Timber business area.
“As Finland’s largest redwood producer UPM Timber has a strong position in various sawn timber markets. We intent to strengthen our market positions by continuing to develop new products and services for different end-use industries”, says Ilkka Ylipoti, who has been appointed Head of Timber Business as of 1 June 2011. Ylipoti has a vast experience in marketing and sales management from European, Asian and Australian markets and he is currently SVP of UPM Raflatac’s business in Asia Pacific region.
Arto Halonen, SVP of UPM Timber business has been appointed head of the new further processing business unit as of 1 June 2011. “Developing new products and services for wood building solutions as independent business is a great opportunity. Our wood products face a promising future in construction and interior design. We will develop and grow our business more market oriented and for consumer needs”, Halonen says.
