Pepsi Beverages Company to Remain in Somers, New York

Friday 25. March 2011 - PepsiCo’s Beverage Bottling Division Officially Signs Five-Year Lease

Pepsi Beverages Company (PBC), the bottling division of PepsiCo, Inc., today announced its headquarters offices will remain in Somers, N.Y. for at least the next five years. The division reported it officially completed all lease-related filings today.
Under terms of the new lease, PBC will remain headquartered in the 540,000-square-foot building located at 1 Pepsi Way through the end of 2015. The agreement also includes an option to extend the lease for an additional five years.
“We’re excited to share this news with the local community and the state leaders who worked to assure us that New York will continue to be a great place to do business,” said Eric J. Foss, CEO of Pepsi Beverages Company. “The Pepsi enterprise has had a long and successful history in New York. We’ve always been proud to play a positive role in the communities in and around Westchester County, and we’re eager to continue doing so in the years ahead.”
The nine-story building houses approximately 1,200 employees and contractors who lead and support PBC’s 70,000 employees in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. PBC currently occupies seven of those floors and, as the sole tenant of the building, can expand to fill the remaining space over time. PepsiCo, whose worldwide headquarters is also based in Westchester County, is directly responsible for more than 10,000 jobs in New York State.
The Somers building has been part of the Pepsi enterprise since 1985. It was previously the headquarters of Pepsi Bottling Group, which merged with PepsiCo last year.
“We are extremely pleased that Pepsi Beverages Company will continue to call Somers its home,” said ESD President and CEO designate Kenneth Adams. “Jobs strengthen communities and generate economic growth, which is why we worked with PepsiCo to help secure more than 900 jobs in New York. Today’s announcement demonstrates our unwavering commitment to encourage economic growth and is evidence that New York remains a top destination for businesses to thrive.”
Pepsi Beverages Company has strong ties with the Westchester County community. “Westchester’s relationship with Pepsi is a long and proud one,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “Combining global reach with hometown values, Pepsi has become one of the world’s premiere corporations and corporate citizens. PepsiCo is not only a major source of jobs for Westchester and New York but a committed neighbor to local communities. Westchester looks forward to strengthening its partnership with Pepsi and its employees and stands ready to offer whatever help it can now and in the future.”
PepsiCo has a long history of giving back to local communities. As part of the company’s commitment to Performance with Purpose, it has supported United Way and other community-based employee volunteer events. In 2010 alone, PBC engaged more than 400 employees in full- and half-day volunteer activities in support of community organizations including the Muscoot Farm in Katonah, N.Y., American Red Cross of Westchester County and Camp Combe in Putnam Valley, N.Y.
According to Naomi Adler, president and CEO of United Way of Westchester County, “The United Way staff and volunteers who have worked together with a great deal of PBC employees to help address the needs of everyone in our community will be delighted to hear that PBC has decided to remain in Westchester. By giving, advocating and volunteering with us for so many years, PBC is truly committed to the LIVE UNITED ideal and we look forward to many more years of partnership.”
The building owner also commented on the announcement. “Murray Hill Properties is very pleased that Pepsi Beverages Company has renewed the lease at One Pepsi Way. We look forward to continuing our relationship with PBC as well as the vital role it plays in the community.”
