UPM ProFi to be the first European manufacturer to be awarded CE marking for the composite terrace system
Thursday 24. March 2011 - UPM ProFi Deck is the first wood-plastic composite based terrace deck system manufactured in Europe that has been awarded the right to use the CE marking. This marking is the manufacturer's confirmation of the product's compliance with EU quality requirements.
UPM ProFi Deck has been product tested by VTT Expert Services Oy. The experts examined a total of 15 material properties.
The entire process has taken more than three years. First, requirements to be met by the product were set. Then, the product was tested according to these requirements; after this, ETA approval could be issued. EU approval involved several rounds of comments.
“With the marking we can show that our product has been tested accordingly and that its properties fulfil the promises we make to our customers. The CE marking is a quantum leap for the entire industry as it enables reliable comparison between products. Thus, we hope that other manufacturers will follow suit. By being a pioneer in this area as well as others, we have a head start over competitors since no other manufacturer has accomplished this,” states Director of UPM ProFi, Markku Koivisto.
UPM ProFi is the first European wood plastic composite manufacturer to have been awarded the CE marking. A product with a CE marking complies with the safety, health and environmental requirements set out by the Construction Products Directive.
UPM ProFi Deck terrace products are manufactured from new generation composite material developed by UPM’s R&D. The main raw materials are plastic and wood fibres that are by-products of UPM’s label stock production. The raw materials do not contain any harmful chemicals, are virtually lignin free and thus, much less susceptible to greying. The material surface is hard, which makes it durable and particularly suitable for outdoor use.
