Great Journalist Award Finland Winners Announced

Wednesday 23. March 2011 - At a gala dinner yesterday in Helsinki, the winners of the Great Journalist Award, Finland were celebrated.

The winners of the Great Journalist Award, Finland were made public yesterday. The awards, which celebrated their tenth anniversary, were given out in three categories and were chosen from among 145 nominations; the finalists in each category were announced on Feb. 15.
The Journalist of the Year went to Jarmo Luuppala of Iltalehti. Finalists in the category were Heikki Ali-Hokka of YLE and Sami Rainisto of Talouselämä.
The Journalism Contribution of the Year went to Ajankohtainen kakkonen’s TV show theme night “Homoilta.” Finalists were Ilta-Sanomat’s history magazines and YLE News’coverage of energy tax reform.
The Article of the Year went to Tiina Merikanto’s “Pitkät jäähyväiset” coverage of Alzheimer patient Marie Suojanens. Finalists included Anu Nousiainen’s artikel “Valitut” för Helsingin Sanomat’s monthly insert and Tapio Nurminen’s report “Kreikan turvapaikanhakijat” för MTV3 News.
This year’s jury for the Great Journalist Award, Finland included Jouko Jokinen, of Aamulehti, Atte Jääskeläinen of YLE news, Vesa-Pekka Koljonen, columnist and journalist Pekka Seppänen, Leeni Peltonen, of Kotiliesi, Marjaana Toiminen of Bonnier Publications Oy, Jari Tourunen of Savon Sanomat, jury chair Merja Ylä-Anttila of MTV3 News and jury secretary Tuomo Mörä of Helsinki University. Jury members do not judge the entries from their own companies.
