LANXESS closes Tokyo office

Friday 18. March 2011 - In view of the current situation in Japan, specialty chemicals group LANXESS has temporarily closed its office in Tokyo.

“We are shocked by the immensity of the disaster. Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy,” said LANXESS Board Member Rainier van Roessel.
LANXESS has its Japanese headquarters in Tokyo. In addition, subsidiary Rhein Chemie has a production facility for rubber chemicals in Toyohashi, some 250 km southwest of the Japanese capital. LANXESS also has a customer and service center for its Leather business unit in Himeji, about 500 km southwest of Tokyo. The company’s employees in Japan are unharmed and there has been no damage to its facilities.
“The safety of our employees in Japan is our top priority,” said van Roessel. “We have set up a crisis management team to continuously analyse the situation and monitor further developments together with the Country Head in Japan.
For the time being, the managerial employees of the Tokyo office will work from Toyohashi, where production is continuing. LANXESS employs about 100 people in Japan. The company already imposed a travel ban to Japan at the beginning of this week.
