Ricoh UK expands its range of print servers for colour production print models
Tuesday 15. March 2011 - Three digital front-end choices provide flexibility and easy upgrade for commercial and corporate print operations of all sizes
Ricoh UK today announced it has expanded the range of print servers available for the, Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition digital colour press to meet a variety of application and workflow needs for corporate and commercial print customers.
With the addition of the Creo C-81 print server, Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition customers now have a choice of three servers. The new Creo C-81 is a high performance server that is ideal for rigorous graphic arts applications, whilst the Fiery E-41 from EFI is ideally suited for corporate and commercial print operations looking for an ease-of-entry solution to meet demanding production and colour requirements. The Fiery E-81 from EFI is particularly appropriate for corporate and commercial print operations with challenging applications and/or workflows.
“The needs of print service providers continually change as demands on their services change. Our expanded range of print servers means we can now offer providers the solution that meets their individual requirements,” said Stephen Palmer, Production Print Director of Ricoh UK. “As well as introducing the Creo C-81, Ricoh is providing a clear upgrade path for Fiery E-41 customers, allowing them to upgrade to either an EFI Fiery E-81 or Creo C-81 as their needs change.”
The new Creo C-81 has a number of features including:
Adobe PDF Print Engine 2 (APPE) support: for fast, accurate, native rendering of PDF files and improved support for PDF file formats. Print service providers can manually choose whether to use Adobe CPSI or APPE technology, or enable the Creo C-81 print server to automatically select the best option based on the content of the file.
Free web-based training and HTML help tools: to quickly locate and access topics on a specific subject.
Colour library enhancements: support for the new Pantone GOE colour library.
Colour picker: using a spectrophotometer, print service providers can get accurate spot colour values from a wide range of substrates including printed material and fabric. CMYK values are easily saved in a custom colour dictionary for future reference.
Synchronised paper library: changes to the paper library are updated in the print engine and print server simultaneously, irrespective of where changes were made, therefore eliminating potential paper mismatches in the system.
SMS and email notifications: mail server and SMS server accounts are easily configured allowing pre-defined operators to receive email and text message notifications about the status of the print engine.
New optional plug-ins: for colour management and imposition tools.
The Fiery E-41 and E-81 from EFI offer a range of new features and functionality that will add value to high performance production operations. These include:
Fiery image enhance: automates colour correction of non-professional photographs, saving time previously spent in pre-press and reducing the time-consuming process of manually editing and manipulating files.
Pure primaries: for professional proofing and production colour requirements. By preserving GCR levels and keeping saturated colours pure, the colour output is more vibrant.
Use maximum print density: maximises the colour gamut of the press, to obtain more vivid colours.
Fiery JDF: enables Fierys built-in JDF workflow support to streamline processes from job submission to output and finishing. It integrates with a range of EFI solutions, including EFI Print MIS and Digital StoreFront. Job information flows through the production process faster and more efficiently.
Adobe PDF Print Engine 2 (APPE) support: compatible with the E-41 and E-81 print servers, it offers an additional native PDF end-to-end workflow. Print service providers can more easily improve consistency from design to output in both digital and offset print environments.
Palmer concludes: “Ricohs objective is to help its customers achieve business success by providing them with the means to continuously improve productivity, reduce costs and enhance output quality. These highly capable print servers are yet another way Ricoh customers can confidently, reliably and consistently meet the needs of their clients.”
