Mohawk Named EPA Top Green Power Partner Again
Thursday 10. March 2011 - Mohawk remains one of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys Top 50 Green Power Partners, currently ranking as number thirty-three on the list, as well as ranking number eight on the list of 100% Green Power Purchasers.
Mohawk joins other leading renewable energy purchasers including Intel Corporation, Kohls Department Stores, Whole Foods Market, City of Houston, Dell Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Cisco Systems, Inc., Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, U.S. Air Force, and City of Dallas.
“EPAs Green Power partners are tapping into Americas growing clean energy market and powering the economy of the future,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “Investments like these are smart for business, foster growth in the green energy sector and help protect our health through cleaner air.”
“Mohawk Fine Papers is proud to have been an early supporter of windpower development, a steadily increasing source of clean renewable energy,” says George Milner, senior vice president, energy, environment and government affairs.
EPAs Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,300 partner organizations to voluntarily purchase green power, reducing the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use. Overall, EPAs Green Power Partners are using more than 19.2 billion kWh (kilowatt-hours) of green power annually, equivalent to the CO2 emissions from electricity use of more than 1.7 million average American homes.
Mohawk was named Green Power Partner of the Year in 2007 and again in 2009, and received the EPAs Green Power Leadership Award in 2005. Mohawks current annual purchase of 116 million kWh of wind RECs (renewable energy certificates) is enough green power to meet 113% of Mohawks 2010 electricity use. Mohawk purchases renewable energy certificates (RECs) from 3Degrees, Sterling Planet, NextEra Energy Resources, and Community Energy.
