CPI enhanced ebook conversion tops iTunes chart

Monday 07. March 2011 - An ebook produced by CPI has reached number one in the iTunes chart.

The Gruffalo Red Nose Day Song Book was converted to enhanced multimedia ebook format by CPI for publisher Pan Macmillan. As well as topping the download chart, the interactive ebook has received a number of highly positive customer reviews.
CPI Antony Rowe, the digital division of the UK’s leading book manufacturer, has built in special multimedia features as part of the conversion. The children’s ebook includes an exclusive sound recording of ‘The Gruffalo Song’ sung by the author, Julia Donaldson. It also features a video of the book’s illustrator, Axel Scheffler, drawing the Gruffalo and explaining how he came up with the look of the character.
Amelia Douglas, Production Manager at Pan Macmillan, said: “We’re delighted at the success of the Gruffalo ebook with its enhanced multimedia features, especially as it’s for charity”.
The ebook is also the first in the UK to use the new fixed ePub format for the iPad, enabling publishers to create ebooks with precise layouts using a CSS or stylesheet. Sizes are specified in pixels rather than point sizes, meaning that the user can zoom in and out without the text reflowing.
The publisher is donating at least £1.22 of the £1.49 download price to Comic Relief. Red Nose Day is on 18th March.
