York firm cures folding bottleneck

Friday 25. February 2011 - "It’s frighteningly quick," is the comment on the Stahlfolder TH56 from Mark Turpin, managing director of Peter Turpin Associates. For the York company it is a larger and more automated replacement for a GUK folder and was purchased only after a thorough review of the options available. It will be delivered next month.

“The TH 56 was the best of the machines on the market that we looked at and the Heidelberg back up is very good. It’s proven; we already run Heidelberg presses and their own brand Saphira inks,” says Mr Turpin. “This will relieve the pressure in the finishing department. The folding has become slow and time consuming and we don’t want to have a backlog.”
Fellow director and appropriately named Simon Buckle explains: “The buckle folder gives us the range of folds we need to meet the varied demands of our customer base which includes national names, from railway companies to high street stores. The TH 56 is a lot simpler to set up and the graphic user interface is very similar to the CP 2000 press screen which can open up opportunities for production flexibility.”
Peter Turpin Associates, based in York, is 31 years old and handles a range of SRA2 and B3 work, running flexible days to meet customer deadlines.
