Fuji Xerox and Fujitsu Jointly Offer Eco Solution to Monitor ICT Devices Operation for Greener Office Environment
Monday 07. February 2011 - Centralized Management of Power Consumption by Computers, Multifunction Devices and Printers
Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited have announced that they will be jointly launching a solution today, available only in Japan, which enables the visualization, or monitoring, of the operation and power consumption (CO2 emission) of computers, as well as Fuji Xerox’s multifunction devices and printers, on a network by linking the software of both companiesNote 1.
This is the first attempt in the ICT industry to forge software integration to centrally control power consumption data of individual computers and output devices leveraging operational management software. Fujitsu’s operational management software Systemwalker Desktop Keeper V14g manages the number of outputs from multi-function devices, as well as printouts from dedicated printers.

Benefits from the Joint Solution
1.Facilitates better ICT device administration and optimum layout planning
The solution periodically measures environmental load data such as CO2 emission and power consumption, as well as ICT device usage status for centralized reporting. This contributes to improving ICT device operations and the planning of their optimum layout. It is also useful when compiling periodic reports and medium- and long-term plan on energy discharge, as stipulated in the Revised Act on the Rational Use of Energy, which came into effect on April 1, 2010 in Japan.
2.Achieving reduction of both environmental impact and costs
An in-house test conducted by Fuji Xerox and Fujitsu shows that the software integration can reduce costs associated with factors such as electricity and paper by approximately 30 percentNote 2. Through visualizing the power consumption of ICT devices, CO2 emission, and usage status, both companies were able to implement measures surrounding eco-actions, optimum layout of multifunction devices and printers, as well as the controlled use of devices.
Through this software linkage, Fuji Xerox and Fujitsu will provide an optimum solution that can cut costs and address the growing need for environmental considerations at the same time.
To guarantee a reliable linkage between the software to customers, ApeosWare Management Suite has received the Advanced level certification under Fujitsu’s Systemwalker EnabledNote 3 program. ApeosWare Management Suite is the first to receive the Advanced certification for Systemwalker Enabled in the Green ICT category.

Approximately 30 percent
The figure is based on an in-house verification test held by Fuji Xerox and Fujitsu, and could vary according to individual office environment and level of measures adopted.
Note 3
Systemwalker Enabled
Fujitsu’s program to certify partners’ products that link with Systemwalker. Fujitsu and its partners mutually examine partners’ products and their integration with Systemwalker, aiming to provide higher assurance to end users at their system purchase. With the two levels of Basic and Advanced, the program grants the Advanced certification to partner products that can achieve high-level integration with Systemwalker.
