Bell & Bain switches from MBO to Heidelberg for new folder

Thursday 03. February 2011 - Bell & Bain is switching from MBO to Heidelberg for its next folder after extensive testing showed that the sheet control of the Stahlfolder TD 112 increased productivity by 20-35% over rival products and the fold quality was the highest standard.

“The new folder will be installed next month, replacing a 14 year old MBO. This is quite a departure for us to go to Heidelberg after several years and we have done so only after a very thorough evaluation of the options by operations director Stephen Docherty and operations manager Karen Baillie. We are doing so secure that this is a machine that will bring us a return on investment,” says Ian Walker, managing director.
Although the TD 112 has good automated features it was not the ease of makeready but the running speed and robustness of the machine that convinced Mr Docherty.
“The service and the whole experience of dealing with Heidelberg was so much better than with their competitors,” he says. “They had the technical knowledge and we were shown what we wanted to see and were provided with the samples we requested. We will replace a couple more folders in the next two years and Heidelberg is now in a strong position to secure more orders.”
The switch from MBO to Heidelberg comes less than a year after the Glasgow printers replaced a Wohlenberg guillotine with a Polar 155XT at Ipex.
At the same time Bell & Bain has added Prinect Prepress Manager to automate functions and enhance imposition and planning functions. “This takes prepress functionality to the next level. It is effective and easy to use. Furthermore it seems that engineers are available at the click of a finger; that’s what printers need today,” says Mr Docherty.
Bell & Bain prints books and learned journals, employs over 80 staff and holds ISO 9001 quality, ISO 14001 environmental and FSC/PEFC Chain of Custody certifications. The company dates back to 1831 and today offers a comprehensive range of services to publishers, including both digital and litho printing solutions.
