University inplant bolsters its cutting capacity

Thursday 27. January 2011 - Having brought 23 brochures in-house that were previously put out to print, the University of Wales (Aberystwyth) has had to increase its cutting capacity so next month will take delivery of an additional Polar guillotine.

The Polar 78X Plus, the new model launched at Ipex last year, will run alongside a smaller Polar 66. With the X Plus series printers have improvements in the software and a touch screen operator interface. As a standalone machine it is estimated to increase output by 5-10% over older models. Being a larger size, the one at the University of Wales inplant will also increase the flexibility in the work that can be handled.
“Work was brought in-house because of the timelines required, the greater quality control and the reduced costs,” says Geoff Hughes, head of the inplant. “Now only the university prospectus goes out.”
Good experience and a lack of issues with the existing Polar technology was the determining factor in the university’s machine selection. “We have had the existing Polar for a number or years and had no issues with it,” says Mr Hughes.
