TG Print retrofits filtration and RO
Thursday 27. January 2011 - Following on from the installation of a Speedmaster XL 75-5+L, a five colour B2 press, TG Print has taken delivery of a basic.fc filtration and alpha.r reverse osmosis system. These products designed to maximise the efficiency of the dampening system, critical for print quality and productivity, are seen as the 'belt and braces' to ensure optimum press efficiency by the Woolwich company.
TG Print has invested about £10,000 in ancillaries, a small sum compared to the capital investment in a new press, and the company believes it will quickly see a return on investment on that sum in the saving of time, effort and chemistry and the increased uptime and productivity.
Managing director David Duhig says: “If you drive a TVR they recommend Super rather than Standard Unleaded. It would be stupid to run a top of the range car with cheap petrol and the same applies with a press. Good ancillaries, good dampening solution, ensure we continue to run at no less that 15,000sph on the XL 75, a 50% lift in productivity over our previous machine.”
Reverse osmosis ensures that the water content of the dampening solution is at an optimum and predictable hardness and pH. The filtration system keeps debris from the production process out of the dampening and enables the chemistry to be used effectively for longer.
“The filtration system means that we don’t have to flush out the dampening solution as frequently as we did on the SM 74. On that press we would have to clean the dampening weekly; now it’s only about every 12 weeks. This leaves our operators to focus on the other areas of maintenance, safeguarding the resale value of the machine,” says Mr Duhig.
TG Print is a general commercial litho and digital printer which produces flyers, posters and general commercial print for its local London and south east region but also to all parts of England, Scotland and Wales.
