Presstek and E. Michaelis & Co (GmbH & Co) KG Sign Distribution Agreement

Thursday 06. January 2011 - E. Michaelis responds to trend for short runs in offset printing by marketing Presstek DI digital offset presses in Northern Germany

Presstek, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRST), a leading supplier of digital offset printing solutions to the printing and communications industries, has entered into a partnership agreement with E. Michaelis. The agreement will see the Reinbek-based company distribute the Presstek 52DI digital offset press in the Schleswig Holstein, Hamburg and Northern Lower Saxony regions of northern Germany.
Michaelis has been involved in the graphics industry since 1804. “We’ve recently broadened our offering in all areas – from consumables to digital printing systems and digital workflow to finishing,” says Norbert Zimmermann, Managing Director at Michaelis. “Being a distributor of innovative systems like the Presstek 52DI is a key part of this expansion.”
Zimmermann believes that changes in the print market make the Presstek 52DI a compelling proposition for print service providers in northern Germany. “The type of print products being produced today are changing, and so too are the typical run lengths. Demand for short print runs with very fast turnaround times are increasingly common.”
“Around 80 percent of print runs in the four-colour printing market are produced with a maximum run of 6,000 . This makes the Presstek 52DI the ideal machine for closing the gap between conventional offset printing machines and digital toner-based systems. It offers waterless offset printing at high speed and delivers excellent quality, plus it helps printers address environmental issues. We anticipate that it will be a very popular system among our customers.”
Fast, flexible and profitable
The highly automated Presstek 52DI is a four color digital offset press that is ideal for short print runs of high-quality with fast turnaround times.
The press doesn’t require a separate prepress system, as the chemistry-free plates are imaged directly on-press in precise register. With runs of between 500 and 10,000 copies, the Presstek 52DI offers the lowest cost per sheet. It takes less than ten minutes to go from digital file to the first sellable color print.
The print quality is impressive. Thanks to the waterless offset printing, resolutions of up to 300lpi and FM (stochastic) screening can be achieved with no additional time or cost implications.
