Evolution stages a revolution and switches to Heidelberg

Tuesday 04. January 2011 - Award winning commercial printer Evolution Print is taking out two Komori B2 presses. They will be replaced with one Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75-5+L, a five-colour with coater, equipped with Inpress Control and Autoplate XL.

The investment decision was based on shop floor data provided by its Shuttleworth MIS system coupled with business and budget projections. The Sheffield company undertook a thorough market investigation before placing its order for the Speedmaster which will be delivered in the next few weeks.
“Heidelberg has stolen a march on the competition in terms of its press development,” says Graham Congreve who is partner of the business alongside Jonathan Newbould. “It’s a press that will give our customers the quality they demand and us the usability and colour consistency that is vital for the high standard of print we produce. It’s a very, very productive machine and, more importantly, flexible press which has the fastest make-readies and running speeds we have seen.”
Winner of the Innovative Company of the Year accolade last year, this is a pioneering company with B1 and B2 capability that is unafraid of change. Renowned for exceptional quality, Evolution’s reputation has grown quickly amongst some of the most demanding design agencies in the country. Corporate accounts in the retail, education, financial and government sectors enjoy the quick turnaround of high volume jobs that Evolution consistently achieves.
With the fully armed XL 75 Evolution is confident it can build on 15% growth in the current year with a further 20% in 2011-12.
Colour control will be even stricter with Inpress Control which automatically monitors and adjusts inking on the run to ensure consistency throughout a job and from job to job. Inpress Control is also a makeready tool increasing the speed of set up, especially when combined with Autoplate XL simultaneous plate changing. The Heidelberg ink duct foils and removable ink wedges mean that the press washes up from colour to colour in record time.

The Speedmaster will initially run on a double day shift basis and is planned to run around the clock when demand dictates. The sales team has been increased with new staff looking to bring in untapped business.
“We are taking on a fresh and optimistic outlook with this new press. We need to make changes so that we are in control and not just subject to market conditions and pricing,” says Graham Congreve.
The company, which also handles B1 format work, is confident that its existing CtP and cut-fold-stitch technology will be sufficient to partner with the XL 75.
