First cardboard manufacturer in Scandinavia with an FSC Certificate

Thursday 30. December 2010 - Schur Pack Norway a/s is the first cardboard manufacturer in Scandinavia to have been awarded an FSC Certificate, which was issued by the Rainforest Alliance.

The company applied for FSC certification against a background of increased demand from the market, where more and more customers are now pushing for this labelling arrangement. The cardboard that Schur Pack Norway uses to make packaging products, must be fully traceable – all the way back to the forest from which the raw material is taken.

FSC is an abbreviation of the “Forest Stewardship Council”, an international non-profit organisation that runs a labelling arrangement for sustainable wood and paper. The FSC logo is a guarantee that consumers can purchase wood and paper with a clear conscience, because in FSC forests, only as many trees as the forest can reproduce itself are felled. At the same time, the FSC guarantees the protection of flora and fauna, and that the people who work in the forest receive thorough training, appropriate safety equipment and a decent wage.
FSC regulations apply all over the world.
The activities of the FSC organisation stem from a desire to promote environmentally friendly, socially and financially responsible forestry, which demands accommodating the interests of a wide variety of stakeholders – from the forest owner, to retail businesses and environmental organisations.
