DNP Acquires License to use Carbon Footprint Mark in Commercial Printing Area
Tuesday 21. December 2010 - Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) is pleased to be able to announce that it has become the first domestic Japanese company to acquire the right to use the Carbon Footprint Mark in promotional and commercial printing targeting media, such as posters and pamphlets.
The Company distributed two pamphlets displaying the Carbon Footprint Mark at the DNP booth at the Eco-Products 2010 exhibition to be held at Tokyo Big Sight December 9 ~ 11.

The carbon footprint (CFP) is a mechanism that takes the greenhouse gasses emitted throughout a product’s lifecycle, from 1, the raw materials procurement stage through 2, production, 3, distribution and sales, 4, use and maintenance management, to 5, disposal and recycling, and calculates these gasses as CO2 volume and uses a mark to display emissions in an easy to understand. Reflecting the move to reduce CO2 emissions in recent years, efforts aimed at introducing the CFP system have spread around the world after originating in Europe beginning with the UK. 2011 is expected to see the establishment of an international standard.
DNP adopted LCA (*1) in 1996, and created the Environmentally-Conscious products, so as to reduce the environmental impact of our products, and has since promoted the proposal and manufacture of eco-conscious products from the design stage onwards. Acting on an independent basis, DNP also established a system capable of responding to the demands of a CFP system, such as collating CO2 emissions during in-house manufacturing. In 2008, in response to a call from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI,) DNP was an early participant in the Study Group for Developing and Promoting the CFP, and estimated the CFP values of a variety of products. And in 2009 as part of the CFP pilot Program promoted by METI and related ministries, the Company promoted activities including the establishment of PCR (*2) and test schemes in publishing and commercial printing, and various packaging.
