NATMAG ANNOUNCES NEW ESQUIRE EDITOR

Monday 20. December 2010 - The National Magazine Company, Hearst Corporation's principal business in the UK, is delighted to announce the appointment of Alex Bilmes, as the new editor of Esquire.

Bilmes joins Esquire from his current role as Features Director for British GQ. He is also a Contributing Editor to British Vogue and to GQ Style, and his articles have been published in national newspapers and international magazines. He won the 2006 PPA Writer of the Year, 2006 Press Gazette Interviewer of the Year and was highly commended in 2007 for PPA Writer of the Year.
Bilmes brings a wealth of editorial and commercial experience to the highly coveted role. He replaces former Editor Jeremy Langmead, who left Esquire in September to start a new role as Editor-in-Chief of Mr. Porter – the new menswear site from the Net-A-Porter Group.
At the last ABCs (August 2010), Esquire posted a 10.3% year on year increase with subscriptions at an all-time high.
Chief Executive of the National Magazine Company, Arnaud de Puyfontaine, says, “I am delighted to have appointed Alex to this new role. Not only does he have an innate understanding of what British men want, but we are confident he will bring fresh ideas, a competitive edge and huge opportunities for Esquire as we steer the brand towards a multi-platform future. The fact that we have appointed such an impressive talent is further testament to how highly regarded the Esquire brand is in the media industry.”
Alex Bilmes says: “I am thrilled to have been appointed Editor of Esquire, the original and the most iconic title in men’s magazines and the UK’s leading authority on men’s style and fashion. I look forward to building on Esquire’s recent successes and to consolidating its reputation for world-class journalism, photography, design and styling, as well as to leading the magazine’s march into the digital future. This is an incredibly exciting time for me and for the magazine. I can’t wait to get started.”
