BIOMEDEVICE EUROPE 2011 : AN EXCEPTIONAL PROGRAMME WITH THE LEADING EXPERTS IN COMBINATION PRODUCTS

Wednesday 15. December 2010 - An international congress-exhibition dedicated to the development of combination products, BIOMEDevice Europe will welcome the major players in this booming sector on the 23&24 February 2011 in Paris. Running in parallel with the 10th edition of Pharmapack, BIOMEDevice Europe 2011 will make a contribution to this very special event by offering an exceptional programme to the approximately 2 800 visitors expected.

Currently, over one third of health products being developed are combination products, highlighting the importance of this market and its outlets for the pharmaceutical, biotechnological and medical industries. By combining drugs or biologicals with medical devices, combination products pave the way for the development of new delivery systems, thereby extending the patents and heralding a new therapeutic approach with targeted drug delivery.
A customized show to help manufacturers meet the challenges encountered in their projects to develop combination products, BIOMEDevice Europe attracts the leading companies in this sector : JohnSON&Johnson, BioAlliance Pharma, ABBOTT LABORATORIES, ABBOTT VASCULAR, ARK THERAPEUTICS, ASTRAZENECA, B.BRAUN MELSUNGEN AG, BAXTER R&D EUROPE, BIOMERIEUX, BIOMET, BIOTRONIK, LABORATOIRES URGO, MERCK SERONO, NOVAGALI PHARMA, ROCHE – DISETRONIC, SANOFI AVENTIS, SANOFI PASTEUR, TERUMO, etc.
Following on the first edition, which shed valuable light on the complexity and challenges of regulations on the status of combination products, BIOMEDevice Europe 2011 will address these issues in greater depth.
Experts from the FDA, AFSSAPS , MHRA and notified bodies will all be present at BIOMEDevice Europe
Indeed, the first day will bring together representatives from the FDA, AFSSAPS, MHRA and speakers from the notified bodies (G-MED, BSI Healthcare, TÜV Rheinland). These experts, who assess combination products on a daily basis, will take stock of regulations in Europe and the USA. Through their testimonies, they will shed light on the crucial points to be taken into consideration by entities involved in their development. They will share their vision of changes in regulations on the status of these health products and prospects over the years to come.
This exceptional session organised by BIOMEDevice Europe will give decision-makers in pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies a unique opportunity to collect strategic information for their future projects. It will also comprise a round table with an international panel of speakers, including, in particular, representatives of the competent authorities and notified bodies. Participants will thus be able to continue their exchanges with the speakers and ask them questions. (Questions should be sent to qiaoli.vrinat@ubm.com)
The state-of-the-art of « enabling technologies »
The second day of lectures at BIOMEDevice Europe 2011 will focus on the technological challenges linked to the development of combination products. Presentations will be given by academic experts and representatives of leading, pioneering industries in the supply of enabling technologies.
The session on « Combination products today and in the future : Drugs and biologicals – New delivery systems » will address the themes :
• Commercializing drug device combination products – future perspectives
• Overview of injectable drug devices for self-administration including pens, auto-injectors and new patch-injector/pump devices
. Recent advances in transdermal delivery of biologics
• Targeted drug delivery to the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord)
• Combination of diagnostics and therapeutics
The session on ” enabling technologies for combination product design and development” will comprise six high-level presentations on advances in biomaterials and surface coating technologies for drug release.
« Technological showcase » exhibition with leading companies in the sector
Over 40 companies will present their latest technological advances in addition to their services for the design and manufacture of combination products.
