WEENER develops new closure for shower products from Colgate-Palmolive
Monday 29. November 2010 - South Sea Flair Thanks to "Tahiti"
Summer, sunshine, holiday feelingÂ… The “Tahiti” shower products still conjure up images like this for many consumers ever since the French product launch in the Seventies with its TV spot showing a young woman taking a shower in a warm tropical rain. The success and recognition of this brand from Colgate-Palmolive has remained unbroken since then.
The compact bottle with its spout cap that can be opened with one hand has been a distinctive feature of the “Tahiti” packaging since the beginning. Colgate-Palmolive has kept the basic elements of this design throughout the entire lifespan of the product line in spite of continuous modernisation. In these days the next generation of the well-known “Tahiti” shower products is hitting the stores. WEENER was a partner in the development of the new line, constructing an innovative closure for the packaging relaunch that retains the spout that is so popular with consumers while consisting of a single injection-moulded piece.
It goes without saying that a solution like this is only possible with complex tool technology. And WEENER offers this kind of expertise at its best: 80 employees are at work on the design and manufacture of tools at WEENER’s main plant in Northern Germany, supported by the very best state-of-the-art technologies such as simultaneous engineering, rapid prototyping and many, many more.
Innovative Closure Solution
The result shows that the team of project managers, toolmakers and designers knew exactly how to optimise the idea and implement a hinged spout cap that features an
entirely new sealing system. Furthermore, the newly designed handle cup makes it even easier to operate the cap with one hand, and the excellent coordination with the bottle manufacturer led to an overall optimisation of the packaging design. The shape of the container was modified slightly to give it a more rounded appearance that is both appealing and modern. The extremely exacting main parting line – located at the lower boundary of the cap – was also optimally designed, creating an almost entirely smooth transition between the cap and the bottle. The new design also allows for a one-piece label covering the complete front and back of the bottle, leaving more room for decoration.
As of immediately WEENER is supplying the closures for all “Tahiti” products in the European market.
