Technotrans expands service procedures

Friday 26. November 2010 - Technotrans remains committed to staying ahead of the pack in terms of support, and has updated its formalised service procedures to ensure that the specific checklists for each of its products, typically 30 plus points in total, take into account the latest F-gas and health and safety legislation. Trained and experienced engineers ensure customers have the best chance of a first time fix in case of breakdown and that preventative maintenance is undertaken where applicable.

Colin Starling, technical supervisor, says “Each product has a defined checklist and the engineer visits with a van equipped with all the main spares required for the job. Efficient pressroom peripherals working to optimum performance is critical given the top colour, quality and productivity required of printers today. Maintenance contracts are becoming more important with the increased adoption of ISO standards, the more disciplined approach required especially for those running with low or no alcohol. They allow a printer to operate with predictable service costs.”
With a product like the beta.c, a combination dampening and cooling device, a thorough refrigerant check is required and under currently legislation this must carried out by individuals with the relevant F-gas qualifications. The checklist for this product includes refrigerant and electrical procedures as well as checks on dampening, ink temperature control and coating units.
Likewise products like alcohol and additive dosing require specific expertise and a knowledge of the latest fount solutions and IPA alternatives.
“The checklists without the training and experience of the technotrans service personnel would be meaningless,” says Mr Starling. “For press peripherals the service engineer has to be multi-skilled in refrigerant, electrical and mechanical processes . Often we are asked to follow up on the work of a third party who has been asked to service equipment and whilst they are expert in one field too often they can diagnose but not fix the problem. For instance they might see lost cooling as a refrigerant problem where in actual fact it is a processing issue. The technotrans service approach is focused on diagnosis, repair and the prevention of further production issues,” says Mr Starling.
