Jewelry Maker Stuller Inc. Readies for Growth with Converged Infrastructure from HP

HP today announced Stuller Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of jewelry in North America, has implemented an HP Converged Infrastructure to maximize availability of critical applications for sales, manufacturing and distribution processes, enabling the company to better respond to customer demand.
Stuller purchased one of nearly 400 HP Integrity Superdome 2 systems that shipped during HP’s fiscal fourth quarter. During that same timeframe, the HP Integrity server blade business more than doubled on a sequential basis. The newest line of Integrity servers running the HP-UX operating environment offer enterprise clients mission-critical reliability and a common, modular architecture.
Stuller relies on HP-UX on Superdome 2 to provide a resilient and flexible environment that supports its dynamic business cycles. Stuller also has deployed the HP XP24000 Disk Array for storing critical data and HP StorageWorks EML Library technologies for long-term archiving.
Stuller manufactures nearly 200,000 jewelry items that are distributed to more than 40,000 independent jewelers worldwide. As the company has launched new initiatives, such as catalogs, videos and new product lines, faster and more powerful servers became necessary to meet timely workload demands. After a thorough review of solutions from IBM and HP, Stuller chose to invest in an HP mission-critical Converged Infrastructure.

HP Converged Infrastructure simplifies the data center
Migrating from its HP 9000 Superdome server to an HP Integrity Superdome 2 has improved Stuller’s application performance by 250 percent. This increase has allowed the company to streamline order entry, sales, warehousing, inventory, shipping and manufacturing processes. As a result, Stuller can maintain its supply chain and distribute products more efficiently among its offices in the United States, Mexico, Canada and China, resulting in rapid response to customer demands.
HP Mission Critical Services assisted Stuller with its application migration from the HP 9000 environment to Superdome 2. Stuller also replaced seven older PA-RISC processor-based HP servers with a single HP Integrity BL890c i2 blade server, reducing the physical footprint and costs associated with administrative, power and cooling by an average of 25 percent.
Stuller adds virtualized storage and connectivity
The processing speed of the HP Integrity rx3600 paired with the HP Data Protector software enables Stuller to perform backups four times faster. This eliminates transaction processing delays that occur during work hours and inhibit production timelines, and it reduces the risk of data loss due to incomplete backups.
