Citygraph Upgrades to Presstek 34DI
Wednesday 17. November 2010 - Faster throughput, higher quality, wider range of substrates characterize new environmentally friendly press
Citygraph, a long-established printing business based in Milan, is reaping the benefits of replacing their older 46 Karat DI press with a new Presstek 34DI digital offset press. Presstek is a leading supplier of digital offset printing solutions to the printing and communications industries.
Citygraph was established in 1986 by Gianni Tadini, who still manages the business with his son, Lorenzo. The five-person company is located in a district with a high concentration of hotels and restaurants and specifically serves these market segments. As a full-service printer, Citygraph provides a range of printed products, from invoices printed on continuous form stock, to high-end commercial printing such as letterheads, business cards, menus, leaflets and brochures.
The Presstek 34DI digital offset press, installed in May 2010, replaces a 46 Karat DI press. Citigraph uses their DI press to produce all their litho work and are pleased with the high quality output that they achieve in an environmentally-friendly fashion. The Presstek 34DI is a waterless press that images all plates on press using a chemistry-free imaging process, it economically prints on a wide range of stocks in runs from 250 to 20,000.
“Five years later, we needed to upgrade our press to remain competitive,” said Gianni Tadini. “There was no doubt in our minds that we would move to the Presstek 34DI. It allowed us to improve productivity and increase quality while still being able to handle the fast-turn, short-run work the market demands. We can cost-effectivelyand profitablyhandle runs as low as a few hundred units with our new DI press, as well as effectively address longer runs when customer needs dictate them.”
Citygraph purchased its Presstek 34DI from DIgraph, Pressteks dealer in Italy, with whom they have had a relationship for a number of years. Tadini explains: “There is a lot of trust between our companies. DIgraph is a long-term business partner that cares about us and wants to help us grow our business. They were also willing to work with us on a trade-in to make the new purchase even more attractive.”
Presstek 34DI digital offset presses print at 2540 dpi with a print speed up to 7,000 full-size or 14,000 A4 size sheets per hour. The 34DI provides full support for FM (stochastic), and AM (conventional) screening up to 300 lines per inch. It can print on substrates ranging from 0,06 mm up to 0,5 mm. This expands the range of printable substrates to include PVC and carton media.
Tadini is very happy with the quality his new Presstek 34DI delivers, saying, “The registration is excellent, and we can use a variety of stocks up to 450gsm, and wider than our previous press. We have total confidence in the quality of the work produced by the Presstek 34DI, which makes it easy to sell to our clients, especially luxury hotels. Whether we are printing short runs of menus, seasonal promotions, brochures, invitations or meeting materials, the quality delivered by the Presstek 34DI easily meets the stringent standards of the five-star hotels and other businesses we work with. Its faster print speed also makes it easier for us to deliver to the tight deadlines todays buyers of print are demanding.”
Last but not least, Citigraph appreciates the green credentials of Pressteks DI technology. Tadini says: “The 34DI images chemistry-free plates on press in precise register, meaning there is much less makeready waste. It is also waterless and works with soy-based inks. This, combined with the ability to use recycled papers, allows us to operate in an environmentally sustainable manner, a factor that is becoming increasingly important to our customers. It also assists us in providing a clean, safe workplace for our employees.”
