IXIASOFT Integrates Quark XML Author with its DITA CMS Solution

Monday 15. November 2010 - Partnership Allows DITA CMS Users to Create Structured Content in a Microsoft Word User Interface

Quark announced today that is has partnered with IXIASOFT, a leading provider of XML content management software, to integrate Quark XML Author for Microsoft Word into DITA CMS, IXIASOFT’s content management solution designed specifically to manage the entire DITA documentation process. Quark XML Author is an XML authoring and editing add-in to Microsoft Word that allows anyone using Microsoft Word to create or edit XML content. The combined solution improves cross-departmental collaboration on the production of technical documentation by making it possible for non-technical subject matter experts to create structured content without using complicated DITA or XML editors.
“In many organizations today, there is a rift between subject matter experts and the documentation teams they work with to produce critical, time-sensitive product information. The documentation teams need input from the subject matter experts, but they don’t have the tools to facilitate this because subject matter experts do not have time to learn nor are they comfortable using DITA or XML editors,” said Eric Bergeron, President, for IXIASOFT. “By integrating Quark XML Author with the DITA CMS solution, we can incorporate more users into the technical documentation process – namely subject matter experts who own critical information and casual content contributors who create the basic input for the documentation process.”
IXIASOFT will integrate its DITA CMS solution with Quark XML Author to allow Microsoft Word users to contribute content to the DITA CMS. The integration will provide a “DITA CMS pane” directly within Word. More specifically, users will be able add new content to the CMS, open existing topics from the CMS and access their CMS ToDo list.
“We look forward to helping IXIASOFT’s DITA CMS users get more from their investment in content management software by improving cross-departmental collaboration on content creation and content reuse,” said Dave White, Vice President of Alliances and Emerging Technology for Quark. “Integrating Quark XML Author with DITA CMS will shield non-technical content creators from the complexities of DITA while ensuring that they can provide important and accurate information throughout the documentation process, including creation, editing, review, and reuse.”
