Goss Newsliner 4×1 press to provide productivity gains in Tianjin, China
Monday 08. November 2010 - Tianjin Evening News Group expands printing capability with new Newsliner press; 4x1 format brings high productivity and cost-effectiveness for straight runs
Tianjin Evening News Group, which produces five daily newspapers including its 910,000 circulation flagship title, Tianjin Today Evening News, has ordered a new 4×1 Goss Newsliner press to enhance capacity and flexibility while achieving cost and productivity advantages. The new press line will allow production of two separate publications through one folder and maximize savings on consumables.
Comprising eight units, the new double-width, single circumference Newsliner press will be configured as two four-over-four towers, with one folder, two Goss CT50 reelstands and a complete mailroom system. Rated at 80,000 copies per hour with a web width of up to 1562mm, the press has been specified with a Goss 2:3:3 jaw folder featuring double independent folding couples and an upper former. This will enable Tianjin Evening News Group to run two different products simultaneously, optimizing press running time and ensuring full press utilization.
Tianjin Evening News Group has been a long-term Goss newspaper press user, and currently operates four 2×2 (single wide, double circumference) Goss Universal press models and three 2×1 Universal presses. Using the proven Newsliner technology platform, Goss International developed the 4×1 model to exploit the benefits of straight-run printing for publishers requiring multi-edition products. With dramatic plate savings and a variety of operational cost-saving advantages, the 4×1 cylinder format was an essential requirement for Tianjin Evening News Group.
“Drawing on the collective technical know-how and experience of a worldwide organization, Goss International continually introduces new improvements to its products,” states Kazuhiko Yasuzawa, president and general manager of Goss Japan. “To enhance the print quality of the Newsliner model in its 4×1 format, we have redesigned the plate cylinders, reducing deflection and thereby improving registration.”
Cantilevered support for plate cylinders also provides greater stability and repeatability at the highest speeds to ensure the Goss Newsliner 4×1 press remains among the most productive presses in its class. Other advanced features include a specially modified triple raceway’ bearing system for greater precision and easier operation, optional Goss DigiRail digital inking, and an enhanced fully-automated splicing system.
As the most influential newspaper publisher in Tianjin city, Tianjin Evening News Group publishes five newspaper titles, three magazines and a web portal. Its flagship title Tianjin Today Evening News has a daily circulation of approximately 910,000, making it the largest newspaper in Tianjin and among the top 100 largest circulations in the world. The new 4×1 Goss Newsliner press for Tianjin Evening News Group is scheduled for installation in July 2011.
