Multi Packaging Solutions Joins EPAs Green Power Partnership
Thursday 28. October 2010 - Multi Packaging Solutions, Inc. ("MPS"), a leader in print, packaging, and merchandising solutions for the cosmetics, healthcare, horticulture, multi-media and value-added consumer markets has joined the EPAs Green Power Partnership. This voluntary program promotes corporate responsibility and environmental leadership to help mitigate the risk of climate change by supporting the development of new sources of renewable energy.
EPAs Green Power Partnership encourages organizations to purchase green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with electricity usage. Partner organizations voluntarily purchase billions of kilowatt-hours of green power annually, helping to reduce the demand for fossil fuels and the associated emission of greenhouse gases. EPA Partners include a wide variety of leading organizations such as Fortune 500 companies; small and medium sized businesses; local, state, and federal governments; colleges and universities.
Multi Packaging Solutions recently qualified for this voluntary program following its switch to 25% renewable energy at its manufacturing facilities in Texas and New Jersey. Company-wide, MPS is purchasing over 2,000,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, equal to over 3% of the companys electricity needs. The company now exceeds the green power purchase requirements outlined by the EPA for participation in the program.
By purchasing green energy, MPS has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by over 1,500 tons per year. According to the U.S. EPA, the companys green power purchase of more than 2 million kWh is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of nearly 300 passenger vehicles per year or the CO2 emissions from the electricity use of more than 200 average American homes annually.
