Datacard Card Delivery Solution Quickly Boosts Productivity, Cuts Costs for High-Volume Smart Card Issuer
Wednesday 27. October 2010 - Enhanced Inline Insertion System Increases Throughput up to 43 Percent for U.K. Service Bureau
Datacard Group announced today that Giesecke and Devrient (G&D), one of the worlds leading smart card innovators, has deployed a new Datacard card delivery solution that is driving measurable productivity gains and cost savings in a G&D service bureau located in the U.K. The card delivery solution, which features an enhanced Datacard MXi envelope insertion system, is being used to issue millions of smart cards each month for banks and credit card organizations all around the world.
Ashley Benfield, operations director for the G&D service bureau, spotted an opportunity in 2009. The global recession led to slightly lower card volumes for service bureaus worldwide. Benfield knew higher volumes were on the horizon. So, when Datacard Group asked if his facility could be a beta site for a greatly enhanced envelope insertion solution, he agreed.
“Datacard experts worked side-by-side with our staff and integrated the new MXi envelope insertion system with our existing Datacard Maxsys and MX6000 card issuance systems and our Datacard MXD card delivery systems,” Benfield said. “Since then, our volumes have increased considerably and productivity has gone up even faster than I had hoped.”
“We are running two of the new systems. Since their deployment, downtime for our card issuance infrastructure has dropped 50%,” Benfield said. “And throughput has jumped an average of 43% per shift.”
“The most rewarding news is that we are improving G&Ds responsiveness and helping them win business in a competitive market,” said Gerry Mimick, senior product manager for Datacard Group. “Turnaround time is critical for G&Ds customers. The gains we have helped them achieve both in terms of greater system availability and increased production capacity are contributing to revenue generation and customer satisfaction.”
Depending on card volumes, card issuers can choose to integrate the MXi system with either the Datacard MXD or the MXD Lite card delivery system. Both card delivery systems integrate seamlessly with Datacard card issuance systems to create personalized cards and carriers completely inline. The MXi system offers selective inserting, which provides reduced set-up time and more flexibility for running multiple jobs. Intuitive operation minimizes training requirements and results in fewer interruptions during job setup and other routine tasks.
