Staples Advantage Announces New Data Protection and Recovery Services for Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses

Thursday 14. October 2010 - New IT Services System Flexible and Easy-to-Use to Ensure Business Continuity

Staples Advantage, the business-to-business division of Staples, Inc., today announced the launch of two new network service solutions, ThriveSafe and ThriveSave. ThriveSafe and ThriveSave enable clients to benefit from local appliance based back-up, one-click rapid restores and disaster recovery so they can be up and running within minutes of a data loss. These latest products are offered through Thrive Networks, the IT network services business of Staples Advantage.

“Small- and medium-sized businesses are challenged by several limitations when searching for a solution that meets their data recovery, application uptime and data retention needs,” said Jim Lippie, president Thrive Networks, the IT network services business of Staples Advantage. “We are now offering a hybrid onsite and cloud data protection and business continuity solution that enables backups to be scheduled as often as needed, with little-to-no impact on server performance. This gives businesses the ability to restore data as quickly as possible – helping to ensure uptime and data recovery throughout the organization.”

Because of limited resources, some small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are utilizing less-than-optimal backup and recovery methods. Some are even dodging the issue altogether. In the event of an IT failure, the consequences can be devastating. According to a recent national survey by Staples Advantage, more than 70 percent of participants responded that an IT security incident taking business operations offline for a day would detrimentally impact them or potentially put them out of business altogether.

Boston-based Applied Value Group, which offers strategic management consulting services to some of the world’s largest organizations, has recently started using ThriveSafe. “Staples Advantage now offers a total data protection solution that delivers the best of an on-premise solution and the best of a cloud-based solution as a single, integrated service,” commented Rob Fiore, chief financial officer at Applied Value Group. “It is the one solution on the market that provides a unified business continuity and data protection platform exclusively for SMBs with all of the necessary components built into an agentless platform.”

ThriveSafe offers a complete data protection solution for the business community and encompasses data backup, disaster recovery and business continuity. Benefits include:

Recoverability: Local copies of data, combined with offsite replication, increases the ability of a business to recovery from a disaster.
Captured Settings:Data can be restored to a new device and shipped to a client’s site with all settings intact in the event of a site-wide disaster.
Automated Server Restart: In the event of server failure, the appliance can start a server virtually. When physical server issues have been restored, virtual images can be cloned back to the server.
Easy Upgrades: Devices can be upgraded via migration to new hardware units.
Uncomplicated Replication: Initial offsite backup seeds are written to encrypted external drives and shipped to a data center for replication.
Bandwidth Management: Ongoing offsite replication can be bandwidth-throttled to utilize maximum Internet bandwidth availability during non-business hours.
ThriveSave is a solution for organizations that already have a business continuity solution in place and need data protection. ThriveSave provides robust data protection for all local network devices, including MS Exchange and MS SQL databases, through an appliance installed onsite. It also provides scheduled, offsite backup to help ensure data will be safe in the event of a catastrophic data loss due to fire, flood or other natural disasters.
