Screen (USA) to Introduce New Mid-Size Flexo CTP Device at Graph Expo 2010

The new Screen PlateRite FX1200 thermal CTP recorder for the mid-web flexo market images plates for a wide range of packaging applications, including labels, flexible packages, folding cartons and corrugated cardboard packages.

Wednesday 06. October 2010 - Flexographic and letterpress printers increasingly are demanding high-quality output and fast turnarounds from the technology they invest in. Screen (USA) has added a new model to its portfolio of high-resolution flexo plate recorders that incorporates customer input and feedback. The PlateRite FX1200 will debut at Graph Expo 2010 to meet the quality and productivity requirements of customers in the mid-web flexo market.

The PlateRite FX1200 is designed for a wide range of packaging applications, including
labels, flexible packages, folding cartons and corrugated cardboard packages. The platesetter is compatible with digital plates from DuPont, Flint Group (BASF), Toray, McDermid and Asahi-Kasei. It handles flexo plates, letterpress plates and thermal ablative film up to 42 x 47.2 inches (1,067 x 1,200 mm). The minimum supported plate size is 4 x 4 inches (100 x 100 mm). The PlateRite FX1200 has a maximum speed of 4 square meters (43.75 square feet) per hour.

The PlateRite FX1200 delivers the exceptional precision and resolution that printing companies expect from Screen technology. The PlateRite FX1200 features a 64-channel laser imaging head. The quality of flexo printing accomplished on plates imaged on the PlateRite FX1200 rivals other technology — in particular, offset — without having to adapt prepress for the process. That is because the device contains the same light source found in PlateRite models for offset printing.

In addition to the acclaimed multi-channel laser diodes, the PlateRite FX1200 features a maximum output resolution of 4,800 dpi. Flexo Dot 4800, a high-resolution halftone dot, was developed specifically to take advantage of the 4,800 dpi capabilities of the PlateRite FX series. Flexo Dot 4800 halftone dots create highlights that are optimized for flexo and letterpress platemaking and printing. Printers start with sharper and more accurate imaging.

Like the entire PlateRite FX series, the PlateRite FX1200 also offers resolutions of 2,400 dpi and 2,540 dpi, with screen rulings up to 200 lpi.

The exclusive push-clamp feature simplifies plate loading. Leading and trailing edge clamps save the operator time and trouble. A button-operated loading mechanism loads plates reliably. Manual plate loading is available as well. The operator can select the optimal plate loading procedure depending on the size of plate being used. An auto-balancing function ensures stable drum rotation.

The PlateRite FX1200, along with Screen’s Trueflow SE ver. 7.2 JDF/PDF Adobe-core workflow, screening technology, high-resolution output devices and a full complement of proofing software and hardware, is a component of Screen’s Packaging Solution offering.

Screen (USA) will introduce the PlateRite FX1200 at Graph Expo in booth #1637, October 3-6 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
