Economy through Ecology

Wednesday 06. October 2010 - EcoLogic in web offset printing

A more efficient energy management lowers operating costs, improves working conditions, and protects the environment. manroland’s web offset presses combine environmental protection and economical production.

Ecometer: transparent processes
The ecometer from manroland enables the calculation of energy-saving potential and thus supports sustainable measures. It calculates the required energy and resources based on customer-specific information, such as machine type, production volume, and paper consumption and offers specific suggestions to sustainably improve printing processes. Additionally, the total savings for one year or for the entire life of a press can be calculated. With this instrument for promoting sales activities, webfed customers also receive expert advice. Besides the representation of energy efficiency, reduction of emissions, and the protection of resources, the ecometer performs the ecological evaluation for predefined machine configurations and shows carbon dioxide, energy and material cost savings.

Less paper waste, minimal energy consumption
Thanks to the highly-dynamic cutting register control CutCon plus, webfed customers save time and valuable substrate, and they can produce in an environmentally-friendly way. Every single cut-off is registered and controlled by the system. Thanks to the highly-precise cutting accuracy, users can avoid an enormous amount of paper waste both during reel change and blanket washing compared to systems without CutCon plus. Integrated regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) devices allow biggest energy savings: 97 percent heat exchanger efficiency compared to 65 percent with recuperative technologies. Under many production conditions the device needs no additional energy, because it is a self-sufficient system that uses the energy of the process-connected solvents only.

Less friction with IROLOC
Constant printing widths of printing rollers make an important contribution to energy savings and also have a positive effect on even transfer of ink and dampening solution to the printing plate. The automatic printing width regulation provided by IROLOC roller locks is based on a proven mechanical solution and almost entirely eliminates the need for frequent readjustment and maintenance. Spring systems that only need to be set once provide the high reliability and durability required. The printing width remains constant under dynamic operating conditions which are characterized by thermal expansion and the influence of consumables. IROLOC increases the lifetime of rollers by up to 20 percent.
