Times-Shamrock Inks Multi-Site Deal with Agfa Graphics

Agfa Graphics announced today that Times-Shamrock Communications has invested in a progressive multi-site equipment and plate deal.Times-Shamrock has grown from a one-site local company in Scranton, PA, to a nationwide media organization operating in 10 states, reaching as far west as Nevada. It has 42 small- to mid-sized print properties, 17 radio stations and a distribution company.
In the midst of a tough economy, Times-Shamrock decided it was time to upgrade and automate. They selected Agfa’s :Advantage N-SL CtP systems and :N91V plates. This transition was influenced by the need tobetter serve their subscribers and stay ahead of market constraints. “From our perspective, what Times-Shamrock needed more than anything was a vendor that could be a reliable one-stop resource. And the only vendor that was able to step up to the plate with the innovative technology we needed as well as service and equipment was Agfa,” said Production Director, John McAndrew.
The third-generation :Advantage N-SL builds on the success of previous generations while offering greater affordability, reliability and ease of use. With its unique violet laser imaging system, :Advantage N combines speed and reliability for small to mid-size newspapers and coldset web printers. Violet laser diodes provide a lifetime of use with the lowest cost of ownership. The :Advantage N-SL can image up to 100 plates per hour, features automatic plate loading from a 100-plate stack loader, and offers on-line processing.
The :Advantage N-SL is designed to handle both Agfa Graphics’ current :N91-V and the new :N92-VCF (violet chemistry free) plate. Times-Shamrock opted for Agfa’s violet-sensitive :N91V plates which produce reliable and robust performance on press with resolutions of up to 200 lpi. :N91V offers today’s printers fast results, high quality imaging, and optimum performance even during the longest press runs.Times-Shamrock was also impressed with Agfa’s sustainability efforts and their new violet chem-free plates.
