IFRA Expo is the leading event of the newspaper and media industry. The 40th edition is being held at the new Messe Hamburg this year. From 4-6 October 2010, IFRA Expo 2010 is dedicated to taking a closer look at some of the critical issues in newspaper production. IFRA Expo highlights the key trends in their respective fields.
At IFRA Expo 2010, Océ will present how efficiently the new Océ JetStream series handles multiple runs of thousands of digital newspapers in one shift.
Océ JetStream prints 3,000 36-page tabloid newspapers per hour
Océ pioneered the digital newspaper market with the Océ Digital Newspaper Network. More than 25 million newspaper copies have been produced globally through this network since 2001, making Océ the world market leader in digital newspaper production.
It was only two years ago that Océ introduced the Océ JetStream series, the world’s strongest color digital inkjet portfolio. In 2009, the company extended the product range of the Océ JetStream to address specific volume requirements for short-run and on-demand newspaper production. The Océ JetStream systems print up to 3,000 36-page tabloid newspapers per hour or 23,000 copies per eight hour shift. Each copy is potentially an individual product, printed digitally with no loss of speed or quality compared to more traditional printing methods.
“The introduction of the Océ JetStream series of digital full-color inkjet presses extended Océ production capabilities into higher run lengths, unprecedented productivity and full-color quality on par with traditional newspapers produced on offset presses,” says Sebastian Landesberger, Executive Vice President Océ Production Printing. “Digital production speeds now are competitive to short-run offset production and within the scope required for regional and international newspapers. As the market leader in digital newspaper publishing, Océ offers its customers new opportunities to dive into attractive business models by using Océ inkjet technology.”
Entry level solution
In 2010 Océ joined the Canon group with the aim of creating the No. 1 printing company in the global printing industry. Océ and Canon customers are offered an unmatched scale in research and development, manufacturing and global distribution services. Their combined forces merge a 130-year heritage of Océ customer-driven innovation with the vast technical resources of Canon.
An entry level digital newspaper solution featuring the Canon imagePRESS color series will also be on display at the Océ IFRA Expo booth. From advanced feeding technologies and generous input capacity to state-of-the-art fusing and image transfer to innovative finishing options, the Canon imagePRESS is a real production digital color press.
Target market for newspaper printers
Océ continuous feed printing solutions allow newspaper printers to seize opportunities in short and medium runs, micro-zoning, and personalization services. Printing houses can complement offset production with digital technology. Newspaper distributors can optimize their logistic systems by putting production close to demand.
