PaperCo has a charity bonanza

Monday 13. September 2010 - This week the Hen & Chickens pub in Baldock hands over a cheque for £9,400 to Keech Cottage, a hospice and respite care centre for sick children. A regular at the pub Tim Cox of Mason’s Paper in Letchworth gave away a prize he had won at work, a "red letter day" with options for water rafting, driving tanks etc.

“I was awarded the prize for my success in promoting key items from PaperCo’s Everyday Packaging Range, which includes cartonboard, tapes and bubble wrap. It was a very successful campaign,” says Tim Cox. “At work we have a strong corporate responsibility strategy and that encourages us to work for the community and charities and so I was pleased to be able to support this worthy cause.”
The official charity for PaperCo is Macmillan Cancer Support and its aim is to fund 100 Macmillan nurse days. As part of this commitment, it is taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning on Friday 24 September, when the local divisions will each hold a fundraising event, ranging from dressing up or dressing down days right through to cracker races and dance marathons. Each member of staff is invited to take part in a £2 a ticket raffle and the five lucky winners will get an extra day’s holiday. Individuals are also challenged to find ways to each raise £25 for the cause.
The morning after the coffee crazed day Mark Barnett, regional director of Donald Murray Paper in the south west, will climb aboard his bike and cover 80 miles of picturesque Pembroke, starting in Tenby on a route organised by Wales Sportive. Of the 500 starters, he will be among the dead certs to finish, having managed the 120 mile Dragon Ride earlier in the year. Mark will add further to the Macmillan funds and it’s not too late to sponsor him. Pledges can be sent to his colleague Barbara Bennett at Donald Murray in Bristol (Barbara.bennett@paperco.co.uk)
Ahead of the game is Selda Hussein, PA to the regional directors at Dixon & Roe. She is this week doing The Bridges Walk, a 15 mile trek which involves crossing and recrossing the Thames in London 18 times. “It’s going to be a challenge,” she admits, adding that she has not put the warm ups in! She will accept any additional support on offer, too (selda.hussein@paperco.co.uk)
Veronica Heaven, PaperCo’s corporate responsibility director, says: “Corporate responsibility has been so good for the soul of the company, encouraging staff to feel part of the environmental, social and economic activities of the company. The charitable events surrounding our support of Macmillan generate so much fun, laughter and team work and really make a big difference to the contribution we can make to this important organisation.”
