Mainline opts to take a Diana X 135 folder gluer to beef up output
Friday 10. September 2010 - Mainline Flatpacks in Huntingdon is installing a Diana X 135 with turning module to expand its folder gluing capacity following a large increase in orders for this major European supplier of cardboard envelopes and specialist packaging.
This additional Heidelberg machine, which will run alongside an existing Bobst, was selected only after a thorough review of the market.
Barry Lill, managing director of the privately owned company, says: “We liked the price, availability and the technology of the Diana X 135. The belt changes are particularly impressive at just four minutes, about 30 minutes faster than on the existing machine which will save us significant production time. We also like the upper conveyors which make it easy to move work through the line and to reconfigure the machine and maintain a constant pressure on the product. We have also opted for a four/six corner unit, to further increase the range of products we can produce.”
The gluing and quality assurance system is being provided by Nordson (UK). Mr Lill says: “I chose Nordson because I was impressed with the all in one Logicomm technology solution, having both precision high speed cold glue and impressive hot melt slot gun technology applications as well as a full quality assurance and ejection package. We have also received good customer service with the existing Nordson equipment that we have used over the past few years which is important to our business, too.”
The Diana X 135 will be delivered this week and will be assembled and training completed by the end of September.
“We involved the finishing manager in making the decision and he is looking forward to the Diana arriving. We both like new toys! I think people will be interested to see the two folder gluer models working side by side,” says Mr Lill. “Weve been very impressed by Heidelberg and on paper they seem to have the right spares, service and support which well now be able to test in real life.”
The Diana X is the most flexible model in Heidelbergs portfolio of folder gluers, a truly modular line with independent drive technology. It comprises a multi carrier formation, with very long folding ways ensuring accurate and precise blank transfer and product control. The configuration chosen provides for complete folding both before and after the turning module, making it an ideal machine for the companys production current and future needs.
Mainline Flatpacks operates a two shift 16 hour day, five days a week but with flexibility to cover peak periods.
