Meech Sponsors Alpine Runners
Monday 06. September 2010 - Meech International is sponsoring one of the UK teams taking part in the 6th Gore-Tex Transalpine-Run 2010, which starts on Saturday 4th September. The four-person team includes Anna Francis, niece of Meech Internationals CEO and daughter of director Graeme Francis. Around 500 runners will set out to cover 305 km over eight days, starting in Germany and ending up, via Austria, in Italy on 11th September.
“The team has trained hard for this but there is no doubt that the distance and terrain will be extremely challenging,” says Anna Francis. “Were grateful to Meech for its help and well also be using the run to raise money for two charities, St Michaels Hospice in Basingstoke, which is helping a close family friend with Motor Neurone Disease and the LATA Foundation, which supports projects and charities across Latin America.”
Meech International is no stranger to sponsoring groups attempting Herculean challenges while also raising money for good causes and this has recently included students undertaking the African Descent and Trans-Kalahari Expedition.
“You have to admire the grit that these people have to train month after month in order to take on the level of physical endurance that is required to achieve these sorts of feats,” says CEO Chris Francis. “Businesses should never forget that they are part of their local community and should take an active role in that community. As well as helping to support some of these more distant events we also try to be involved in sponsoring local funding raising activities where possible.”
