Trelleborg Shows Latest Blanket Technology at IFRA 2010
Thursday 02. September 2010 - Visitors to the Trelleborg stand at IFRA Expo 2010, 4 - 6 October, Hamburg, will be able to find out how the latest developments in offset blanket technology can increase the print quality and profitability of newspaper and semi commercial web offset presses, while having less impact on the environment.
Trelleborg is one of the worlds main manufacturers of offset blankets and its Vulcan and Rollin brands are industry leaders in several areas around the globe.
“Blankets must provide more than good dot reproduction and paper release etc and particularly, when used on shaftless or wider width presses, the blanket can have a big impact on energy consumption,” says Dario Porta, President of Trelleborg Coated Systems. “In some cases fitting a different blanket can reduce energy costs on a web offset press by as much as 20 per cent.
“A significant part of our R&D programme is geared to ensuring that we are as environmentally-friendly as possible in everything we do. Weve examined all aspects of the blanket, from the materials, chemicals and energy required during manufacture, to how blankets are packaged and transported and what characteristics the final product offers to the printer.”
One of Trelleborgs many blankets for the newspaper industry is Vulcan Metal News Progress, a metal-backed blanket that offers extremely easy mounting plus neutral paper feeding. The blanket was developed in close cooperation with leading newspaper printers to ensure that the final result exactly meets the requirements of the newspaper industry.
Vulcan Metal News Progress has a micro-buffed blue surface and provides excellent smash resistance as well as energy savings. It can be supplied with either Active or normal underpacking. Also on Trelleborgs stand at IFRA will be Vulcan Metal Green, a metal-backed blanket for heatset web offset presses that provides exceptional smash resistance and durability plus good print quality.
