The First Choice for a Wide Size Range

Tuesday 31. August 2010 - Primera 110 Saddle Stitcher Increases Automation and Simplifies Operation

Muller Martini introduces the new Primera 110 saddle stitcher offering improved automation and simple, intelligent operation. The saddle stitcher, which was presented at Ipex 2010 in Birmingham, can process a whole host of product sizes and offers the best price-performance ratio in its class.

The degree of automation in the Primera 110 saddle stitcher from Muller Martini has been enhanced and, in order to meet the needs of individual customers, the machine is now available with two levels of automation. Both the Primera C110 and E110 models feature automatic synchronization of the feeder, gathering chain, stitching machine and three-knife trimmer. The optimum coupling position for the assemblies is calculated prior to the start of production on the basis of the size details entered. Pneumatic couplings are used to automatically engage the assemblies in the calculated position and in the preset duty cycle.

The Primera E110 also features the fully automated Amrys size setup solution (Automatic Make Ready System). The stitching machine, three-knife trimmer and stacker are quickly and automatically set to the required size; They are also synchronized with each other, which means the saddle stitcher is set up and ready to produce the new job in the shortest possible time.

Ergonomic Operation
The Primera 110 is set up and controlled via a touchscreen and locally fitted operating units, and now comes equipped with a setup wizard, which is intuitive to use. This feature makes operation simple and self-explanatory for the user. New orders can be submitted incredibly quickly in just seven steps thanks to the convenient operator navigation.

The local HMI control devices, which are now also fitted to every feeder, ensure short operating paths. All the key functions, such as production speed control, can be set at the feeder.
The new flat pile feeder is loaded from the front at the ideal height and is equipped with a high-mounted pile hopper. The setup wizard specifies the position of the right hopper stop and the signature stop via the HMI. The hopper tray is positioned manually, while the signature stop is moved into position using a motor-driven rocker switch. These two features – the setup wizard and the ergonomic operating concept – combine to deliver shortest job changeover times and cost-effective production of first-class products.

Flexible Production Capabilities
The Primera 110 processes a wide size range and manufactures products in sizes from A7 to A3. Two-up and three-up production are also possible. The system can process all types of signature, producing impeccably stitched and cut brochures. Furthermore, mobile merchandise tipper 382 provides extra functionality for adding cards, DVDs, CDs and sticky notes at any tilting feeder position. The products can be glued in or electrostatically blocked.

Top-Quality Products
The Primera 110 is particularly gentle on the signatures. Integrated process supervision and the Asir automatic barcode recognition system, guarantee the completeness and correct configuration of the products. As with the rest of the Primera line, this system also features the new, innovative Smart Stitch Control staple control function, which verifies not only the presence of the staple, but also the type used.

Expandable Production System
Muller Martini’s modular principle allows the saddle stitcher to be expanded as required. Final processing can be completed manually or carried out automatically. Depending on customer requirements, the Primera 110 therefore enables value to be added with the addition of merchandise tipping, insertion and film wrapping process steps thereby ensuring that long-term investment protection is guaranteed.
